Before moving to the Northwest I began exploring sculpting in clay and wax and subsequently had two pieces cast in bronze. I felt I had definitely found the direction I was looking for. In 2004 I began to explore different ways to recreate the satisfaction experienced with working in clay and creating three dimensional work. The outgrowth led me to "mixed media" combined with high texture.
I favor the sensual manipulation of matter into form, adding texture, cutting, staining, burnishing handmade papers, leather, canvas, fabric and paint of all kinds. Experimentation and the use of all these elements are infused into every piece I do.
My pieces in progress will continue to use rich texture, vibrant colors, symbolism and iconography.
A new series: Windows, Doorways - Memories and Dreams - will use inspiration found in dreams, memories and highly transparent moments of clarity and epiphanies. . . . but will include more of the human form and the personal interaction with the environment, my own journey.
